We are home...Again

I decided that instead of updating the Caring Bridge website for Wesley's hospital visits, I would begin using this blog as a means to communicate updates. Last weekend Wes came down with a cold. On Monday morning I took him to the pediatrician because I was concerned about his breathing. Sure enough, he sent us right to the hospital after concluding that Wes had pneumonia. Because Wes has Down Syndrome, his immune system is weakened. That combined with the fact that he is only 9 weeks old made his illness that much worse. We anticipate that as Wes gets bigger he will not have as much difficulty fighting illnesses. He was in the hospital for five days and yesterday we were able to bring him home. Although we love the nurses and doctors at the hospital, we do not want to see them anymore! The positive part of our hospital stay is how many hours I got to snuggle my third child. As most moms know, the children after your first just don't get to be held as much! Wes has had plenty of snuggles and I fiercely love my little boy. He has had more painful pokes and procedures than I am able to count but he remains sweet and content. He is a gift. Thank you so much for praying for us and sending us sweet notes or texts. We feel incredibly supported and loved.

For family who lives far away, you may be wondering how Claire and Audrey are holding up. They actually thought they were on a mini vacation this week. Grandma and Granna took awesome care of them and they LOVED the extended time with their favorite people. I am so thankful that they are only 2 and 3. They think that extended hospital visits are normal for babies. They aren't overcome with worry. They continue to play (and fight) just like every other day. :) I love these little girls.
P.S. Next week Wes gets his new hearing aids. I promise a picture of him rockin his new look.
